(Second) Weekly Appointment 02/16/07
We met with our usual dr again today. It was a pretty standard visit- utrasound to measure baby's bladder, check heart function, measure tumor, and check for signs of heart failure, then the consultation with the perinatoligist and an amnio/tap to empty her bladder with monitoring afterward. The amnio was the same as the last two, except she only took one poke to get it rignt and the fluid was pretty dark (and in case you are wondering, baby pee in a syringe looks a whole lot like cream soda, icluding the froth). The perinatologist said it looked like it was old blood. She told us not to be concerned, but it's pretty hard not to be. I mean, that's not something you would ignore in a child, why is it okay if the baby isn't born yet?
Anyone up for some waffles? We keep going back and forth on this- or really not back and forth, it just keeps getting pushed back. She now wants do the serial bladder draws in a few weeks instead of next Thursday and Friday. She wants us to have to best information possible so we aren't basing any major decisions on information that is a few weeks old. I don't think she came to this decision on her own as many of her comments reference a team. It seems we are a hot topic of discussion at their weekly meetings. So, since kidney function is something that can turn for the worse at any time we going to hold off and hope that I don't go into labor in the next three weeks. [For those who need to make travel arrangements, it's looking pretty certain that delivery won't be any later than the end of March, but given the cirmstances could be any time between now and then. Sorry, I can't give you any more definite information than we get.]
She wants us to meet more of the team since she may not be oncall the day that we need to deliver. We actually met the new OB today and our appointment next week is with him. For the last few weeks nurses have asked us who the new ob is and all we could say is that we'd been assigned to him but had never seen him. He seems nice and we've heard good things from the nurses. Anyway, still in limbo and the next appointment is next Friday afternoon. Oh, and my gestastional diabetes screening came back negative. I guess I can go back to my steady diet of sweets. or at least continue it without as much guilt.
